Mountain Ecosystems (EM)

This unit works on analysing mountain system dynamics on various scales and examining their vulnerability in a time of global changes (climate and uses). The aim is to help improve knowledge of the ecological processes and produce operational methods and tools to support the management of mountain ecosystems and ecological engineering.

Terrestrial ecological systems: dynamics, vulnerabilities and engineering (SEDYVIN)

The goal of research conducted under the SEDYVIN RT is the sustainable management of terrestrial ecosystems, i.e. preserving their direct services to humans (wood, carbon, etc.) and non-merchant eco-systemic services (biodiversity, landscape), also preventing natural hazards relating to ecosystems (forest fires, erosion, avalanches and so on).

Mountain Territories Development (DTM)

The DTM RU’s research and experiments seek to characterise and encourage the integration of environmental considerations into development plans for rural and mountain territories as part of the overall pursuit of sustainable development. For the various themes, research examines territories as study subjects and analyses the operators, practices and public policies that influence or derive from their development. The research is carried out in the aim of supporting decision-making and development policies.

Territorial Development and Multi-purpose Agriculture (DTAM)

Torrent erosion, snow and avalanches (ETNA)
Contact: Didier Richard, ETNA RU Manager
This research unit aims to devise tools for engineering and preventing natural hazards in mountains (avalanches, wind-driven snow movements, floods, debris flows, rockfalls and hazards relating to glaciers). It performs basic exploration into the formation, rheology and dynamic of flows.

Hazards relating to rapid gravity movement, security of hydraulic structures and vulnerabilities (RIVAGE)
Contact: Mohamed Naaim, leader, ETNA RU
The RIVAGE RT aim to develop knowledge on the triggering and spread of gravity movements (avalanches, torrential flood, landslides and dam or dyke breaks) and the performance and risks relating to hydraulic and/or defence structures.
