The partnership with State services

Irstea enjoys a close relationship with the main ministries, local authorities and other organisations.

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fishing

The Irstea Institute has a special relationship with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fishing (MAAP), defined by a framework agreement that gives details of the priorities of this dedicated support and the methods associated with implementing it. These priorities fall into the following ten topic fields:

  • Sustainable management of agriculture and rural areas
  • Sustainable forest management
  • Development of rural territories
  • Rural public services for water and waste
  • Water, agriculture and hydraulics in rural areas
  • Quality of aquatic environments; sustainable management of fish farming resources
  • Optimisation of the use of pesticides and fertilisers
  • Health and safety of agricultural operators
  • Food health and safety
  • Information systems; traceability

The Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea

Irstea is providing its support to public policies raised by the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea (MEEDDEM) with whom it has signed multi-year or annual partnership agreements.

Other ministries

Cooperation has also developed, although more on a one-off basis, with other ministerial departments, such as the Ministry in charge of Equipment (MTETM), Foreign Affairs (MAE) or Tourism.

Local government authorities

Irstea also takes part in numerous partnerships with local government authorities: Region, Department, inter-commune (country, regional nature parks, public establishments in the basin, etc.), suburbs.  By widening their competences, these local authorities have more and more need for knowledge, methods and tools to run their policies.

Irstea's regional implantations make relations easier. The role of each regional director is to propose the Institute's potential and to explain the expectations of the local authorities.

Partnership with public establishments

In addition to ONEMA (French National Agency for Water and Aquatic Environments), Irstea cooperates with many public establishments and objectives agencies such as the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME), the French Agency for Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (AFSSET), the Water Agencies, the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Agriculture (APCA), the National Forestry Office (ONF), etc.
