MOTIVE
The general issue in MOTIVE's research is using the latest advances in data and knowledge collection and management, as well as in modelling and controlling complex dynamics, to make the sustainable management of ecological or territorial systems easier (farms, forests, rivers, etc.).
The research topic was created in June 2009 from 2 Irstea teams located at Clermont-Ferrand:
- COPAIN (the "Communication and Agro-Environmental Information Systems" team belonging to the TSCF, "Agro-System Technology and Information Systems" research unit). COPAIN researchers focus on specific aspects of developing sensor networks and data or knowledge management in agriculture or environmental management.
- The LISC (Complex Systems Engineering Laboratory) research unit is developing individual models for studying the complexity of social dynamics or ecosystems, and new methods for assessing the viability or resistance of these systems.
In addition to their specific research, both teams are collaborating to develop data warehouses to store and examine the results of complex simulations (in the European PRIMA project) and assess the viability of sensors or sensor networks.
