SYNERGIE

Spatial information contributes to our understanding of territorial and environmental dynamics (rural and peri-urban areas, catchment areas, etc.) interacting with human activities. It is also an invaluable mediation tool between the organised forces in society to define and implement concerted management strategies.

This raises scientific questions on how data is acquired, expressed as relevant information, spatially and temporally analysed, about information systems for managing it, as well as about the appropriation and mobilisation of this information by the various players involved. The SYNERGIE research topic is providing concrete answers to these questions.

In order to carry through this research to a successful conclusion, partnerships are being forged with national and European spatial information agencies, the high-tech spatial information industry, spatial information experts from various public research organisations, and everyone involved in territorial and environmental public policy, in both developed and developing countries.
Generating and disseminating knowledge is combined with other activities: applied research, assessment, support for the players involved, initial and ongoing training.
