Hosting and mobility for researchers

Hosting policy for young scientists

In 2010, 251 doctoral students conducted theses within the organisation’s research units under various forms of funding (research grants, Irstea contracts, regional and international funding, Cifre (Industrial conventions for training through research) contracts, etc.) and 63 new theses were initiated. A programme launched in 2003 by the research department to host young doctoral students for an 18-month post-doctoral internship at Irstea has meant that 21 new post-doctoral researchers were welcomed throughout 2010, out of a total of 42.

Hosting overseas researchers

Throughout 2010, Irstea hosted 33 overseas researchers for an average period of just over three months.

Approximately 45.5% of them took part in a “long stay” programme of 2 months or more. The majority of overseas researchers who come to Irstea are from the European Union (39%), Africa (18%) and North America (15%).

The “Ecotechnologies” (51.5%) and “Water” (39. 4%) science departments have welcomed the most overseas researchers, representing over 90% of overseas researchers in 2010.  Just as with the long-term exchanges, all three scientific departments are involved.

Hosting delegation researchers

Reserved for academic researchers (university lecturers and professors), delegation is a hosting procedure.

The framework agreement signed between Irstea and the Conference of University Presidents (CPU) defines the procedure.

For each delegation, a special agreement is signed between Irstea and the academic’s home institution, which defines the research project and the financial compensation allocated by Irstea to replace teaching.

Irstea hosts academic researchers who continue to receive their salary and benefit from all the rights associated with the position. They are released from classes and are involved in a research project within the institute.

The delegation request is submitted to the institute’s science department for decision. A dozen delegations have been carried out in Irstea over recent years.
