 Creating and preserving value are the two goals behind the transfer of our research results to various socio-economic entities.

  •  To create added-value based on innovation, while responding to companies’ needs for enhanced activity, to support their competitivity and to help them to conquer new markets using advanced technologies.
  • To preserve existing value by providing methods and tools for understanding the environment to help both public and private parties in the decision-making process related to spatial planning and the management and anticipation of environmental risks



 Irstea is committed to the creation of companies with local partner incubators.


We can nurture you in our Minéa incubator in Montpellier, or in one of our laboratories located on one of our other sites.



Irstea protects its research results by registering patents, software, databases, plant variety rights (PVR),  known-how and trade marks.

These results are transfered via licensing with existing firms or through startups creation. They can also initiate projects with private and public partners to bring innovation to market.

Irstea has an IP portfolio of 48 fully owned patentss, 25 co-owned patents, 53 software packages and 22 tramarks (April 2014).

Irstea follows the Carnot Charter of Good Intellectual Property (IP) Practices and the Carnot Institutes’ Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) Policy.
